Why a Root Canal?

When the pulp or nerve tissue of a tooth becomes weakened or damaged, bacteria begins to grow quickly within the pulp chamber as it breaks down. This bacteria, combined with other food particles and decayed debris, can result in a tooth infection or abscessed tooth. When an infection spreads beyond the root of a tooth, an abscess or pus-filled deposit can develop. Other issues caused by a damaged root canal may include:

-Bone loss near the root of the tooth
-Swelling of the neck, face or head
-Drainage through the cheeks and into the skin or into the gums

Dr. Alin Alkass can help you identify problem teeth early and prevent any of these root canal problems from going too far.
